The Apple Macintosh Performa 6360 with Internal Geoport Express Modem is a BAD, BAD system!

Thank you to kriss@spec.com for sharing these results and giving me permission to use them on this site. His email included these comments:

"I just checked my Performa 6360/170 with MacBench 4.0 with the internal modem ON and OFF. My scores are a little better than your data; however, this may be since I have a L2 512 Cache card and yours has a L2 256. Anyway, the internal modem seems to slow down the works.

My scores with Internal modem ON-line/OFF-line were:

96/268; 92/218; and 111/155 "

A shareware application called MacBench® 4.0 by Ziff-Davis was used to test how well the Performa 6360 performed online and offline with the internal 28.8 kbps Geoport Express "software" modem. The application used the Power Macintosh 6100/60 as its benchmark (light green). The shareware version of MacBench 4.0 ran 3 different tests (Processor, Floating Point, and Disk) in its Main Test Suite.

The image that follows shows the results.

The dark green bar represents the Performa with the Geoport modem in use (connected to the Internet). The blue bar represents the Performa with the Geoport modem not in use.

Daria's website also mentions benchmark results of 30% - 60% performance loss, though specific test results are not given.
