I am Tenacious D's second biggest fan. If you have a question that isn't answered on this page, please send me an email.
1.
Is Tenacious D really the greatest band on earth?
Yes.
2.
How did Tenacious D get to be the greatest band on earth?
There are many, many factors involved, and it is a complicated process. But having written the best song in the world helped a little.
3.
What is the origin of the name "Tenacious D?"
Tenacious D is the nickname of the band's founder, George Krinkle. George was diagnosed early in his teens with a rare form of scalp cancer that resulted in the loss of his hair. Because of his baldness he was given the nickname "Mr. Clean." As often happens, the nickname evolved: "Mr. Clean" became "Drano" which in turn evolved into "D-man." George defied his doctors' predictions, tenaciously fighting the cancer for 20 years, and it wasn't long before the D-man became known as "Tenacious D."
4.
What happened to George Krinkle?
Why isn't George Krinkle in the band anymore?
Before joining Tenacious D, Jack Black and Kyle Gass were archenemies (for more details, listen to the "Wonder Boy" lyrics). George, a pacifist, brokered a truce between them, taught them to sing and play guitar, and recruited them for his band, Tenacious D. Just prior to their first world tour in 1989, false rumors of discord between the band members and the subsequent harassment by the press forced George, Jack, and Kyle to retire to a desolate cabin in the woods to complete their rehearsals. Though the details are sketchy, we know that very early in the morning of April 2, George dictated a suicide note to Kyle and then strangled himself with his own hands.
Grief stricken by the sudden suicide, Jack and Kyle spent a few years in a state institutional facility dealing with the loss of their friend and mentor. When they were released, they reformed the band as a duo. Other than their initial statements to the police, Jack and Kyle have refused to speak of the traumatic event since. Tenacious D carries on in George's memory.
5.
How come I've never heard of this George Krinkle before?
Because you're a Britney Spears-loving, "Whaaz Up!!" yelling, Survivor-watching Johnny-come-lately who wasn't there at the beginning with hard-core fans like me and Lee.
6.
In Question 3, shouldn't the question mark be outside the quotation marks and not inside?
According to the accepted rules of English grammar, punctuation immediately following a quote falls inside the quotation marks.
7.
What is the web address/URL of the website created by The D's biggest fan, Lee?
Lee's very popular Tenacious D website (mentioned in episode 5) contains all the latest info on The D including tour dates, weekly macaroni & cheese recipes from Kyle, an interview with Jack in which he explains the challenges of stage combat in a hotdog costume (during his famous appearance on TV's extremely popular Picket Fences), and much much more. Click here to jump to Lee's site.
8.
Are Jack and Kyle married?
No. Although Jack and Kyle are Friends 4 Ever, they are just friends. There are no romantic feelings between them.
9.
I meant, do Jack and Kyle have wives?
Listen, I am not responsible for your ambiguously phrased questions. I bet you're the same douche bag who asked about the question mark, right?
10.
So, what
the fuck is a stenographer?
According to the dictionary, a stenographer is "one who operates a stenograph."
11.
Who is Wonder Boy, Jack or Kyle?
Who is Nasty Man, Jack or Kyle?
The whole reason for having a secret identity is that IT'S A SECRET! Duh.
12.
What is this "boosh" that Jack refers to snacking on in "The Road Song" in episode 6?
A "büsch" is a Scandinavian snack food that is unavailable in the United States. Jack's grandparents came here from Scandinavia at the turn of the 20th century (Jack's grandfather was Iach Blach, the famous ice sculptor). Jack returns to his homeland often, but when he can't get there, he snacks on tasty büsch cakes to remind him of a tranquility in Scandinavia that is rare here in America. The büsch cake is a distant cousin of the American moon pie.
13.
What are the details of The D's most peculiar warning?
Although neither Kage nor Jables are at liberty to tell me, I have inferred from my conversations with them about dental hygiene that they are both very concerned with the use of fluoride in toothpastes, mouthwashes, and our tap water. The warning on every bottle of fluoride toothpaste urges users to "contact a poison control center immediately" if even a small amount is ingested. Go look at your toothpaste if you don't believe me. Go ahead, I'll wait.
Pretty fucked up, right?
Fluoride is more toxic than lead and originally was sold as rat poison. For more information, click here.
14.
How do you know so much about Tenacious D?
Not only am I their second biggest fan, but my best friend's band, DavidSaid, opened for The D on their most recent world tour.
15.
Some of the information on this page is hard to believe. Are these answers real?
Of course they are. Next you'll be doubting the existence of Sasquatch...
16.
